At Taki Academy, all first year junior high and high school students must sign up for a club. Club activities develop students’ physical and mental capabilities, as well as teaching them to work together. This broadens their potential as human beings.
Education at Taki Junior & Senior High School
Educational reforms we face are always based on the “new perspective on academic ability” and the “development of global human resources.” Both of these pillars need specialization backed by a foundation of academic ability, along with a depth of education. We must keep this in mind while developing our daily classes and school events.
Fifty-minute classes,thirty-three classes a week (five days a week)
Our school classes will last fifty minutes, with thirty-three classes per week. This class time will be dedicated to the attainment of educational “depth” and “breadth.”
Special classes
While many schools have long school vacations, we have special lessons consisting of 3 sessions during these vacations. These special classes, along with standard classes, ensure that a sufficient amount of classroom time is provided especially for review and experience-based learning activities. Each session is 5 days. All students are expected to attend these lessons.
*New students for senior high school will have special morning lessons for 4 days during the spring break to prepare for the new term.
Summer sessions:
One is at the end of July, and the other at the end of August. Junior high school students exclusively join experience-based learning activities during the session in July.
Winter session:
At the end of December.
Takigaku
Taki’s original lessons for 7th, 8th, 9th,and 10th graders
In addition to giving cross-disciplinary education, commonly called STEM education, such as science, technology, engineering, and mathematics, “Takigaku” aims to
give the experience of putting one’s thoughts into words
foster the spirit of entrepreneurship,
and raise the awareness of the environment.
“Takigaku” lessons are given in a participatory style centered on students, with an emphasis on having students think for themselves, form their own ideas and express their own opinions. During “Takigaku,” we offer topics suitable to their grades, relating to the mental attitudes that we want them to cherish as students studying at Taki and the skills that will be useful in the future. We sometimes focus on topics related to our school.
As we approach the 100th anniversary of our founding, the first lesson will focus on the school’s founder, Nobushiro Taki, and the current school president, Dr. Tomio Taki. Through “Takigaku,” students learn to recognize a problem, find a solution, and share that solution with others. Students themselves are expected to facilitate self-discovery and nurture self-esteem through “Takigaku.” “Takigaku” gives students the nourishment of knowledge and skills useful to live in the future.
Saturday Courses
Our school holds classes on about ten Saturdays a year. On these Saturdays, we have three-60 min-long classes. These classes are divided into 2 categories, “academic courses” and “cultural courses” and are held for different purposes than standard classes. These classes are selective and students can decide which classes they take. These will bring the total number of classes per year to about 550 classes. Students can have a day off on that day according to their preferences. On the same Saturdays, special Saturday lessons with mandatory attendance will be held only for first year high school students coming from other junior high schools.
Saturday CoursesClub Activities
Cultural performances, sports tournaments, the Nagatsuki Festival
Every September at Taki, we have our school festival named “Nagatsuki Festival.” Nagatsuki is an old Japanese word for September. Our school festival has two parts; a two-day event to show off the achievements of cultural activities and a one-day athletic meet held separately for junior high school and senior high school. During the two-day event, our campus is full of visitors. They enjoy the displays, presentations and performances of many kinds by our students. They also enjoy various foods from stands operated by high school students. There are also stalls run by parents. During each athletic meet, students learn the importance of cooperation, enjoying sports and cheering for each other.
School counselor and counseling office
An expert school counselor (a clinical psychologist) and a school social worker(SSW) are available to help students through the difficulties and confusion of adolescence. The counselor is always on duty at school and the SSW visits our school two to four times a month. Not only students but also parents are able to ask for advice. In addition, we have a counseling office where full-time health educational teachers and other teachers are always present to quickly address any educational or psychological difficulties the students may be facing.
